10% of Burgos population vaccinated against influenza

A month ago, on October 3, a joint vaccination campaign against influenza and covid-19 began in the province of Burgos. The vaccines can be injected together or separately, at the patient’s choice. As of October 30, the Ministry of Health confirmed that 10.15% of the population in Burgos Province had been vaccinated against influenza. 35,475 people from Burgos have been vaccinated against the disease. The province of Burgos still has enough vaccine to administer, having received 107,521 doses.

Health professionals began administering doses to people in nursing homes and institutions. So it’s not surprising that the oldest age groups are those with the highest vaccination rates. The Junta of Castile and León hopes to reach 75% coverage of certain population groups in the campaign, which may last until February 2024.

39.5% of women over 75 years of age have received a flu vaccine, as have 38.9% of men over 75 years of age. Next is the 70 to 74 age group, as age is another risk factor for getting the flu vaccine. 25.58% of men and 23.34% of women in this age group have been vaccinated.

One month into the campaign, the main reason for getting vaccinated so far is being in a high-risk group due to age. So far, 29,170 people in the province have been vaccinated as a result.

The next reason for vaccination, which is very different from the first, is high-risk groups due to pathological reasons, for which 1,677 people were vaccinated. Some 1,282 people have been vaccinated because they are institutionalized, 902 people have been vaccinated because they are health workers and 299 people have been vaccinated because they are employees of social health centres.

Vaccination for health care workers is voluntary but recommended. In fact, one of the goals of the Castile and León government is to increase vaccination coverage among health professionals.

In addition, 611 people have been vaccinated by prescription and 543 people have been vaccinated because they are a caregiver or cohabitant of someone who is at risk.

As part of the campaign, the committee also seeks to increase influenza vaccination for pregnant or postpartum women. So far, 300 people have been immunized in Burgos.
