Air fryers, which offer oil-free cooking, have gained popularity in recent years and are hailed as the healthiest and most economical way to cook. However, starting to cook with them may seem a little complicated when you first buy them. So if you recently purchased an air fryer and are having a hard time understanding how it works and how to start cooking in it, we have some tips to help you get the most out of your new air fryer.
Shake the air fryer basket several times during cooking to ensure that food is heated evenly. Also, be sure to turn the food over to prevent the bottom from getting soggy!
Place food in a single layer in the air fryer basket to prevent it from cooking without crisping. No one wants soggy grits! If necessary, cook portions of food in batches to avoid overcrowding the fryer.
Cooking any moist or seasoned food in the air fryer will cause it to drip from the basket and burn on the bottom of the fryer. You also won’t get the benefits or flavor of a batter or sauce that other cooking methods provide because it will drip into the pool and be wasted.
You can use the air fryer to reheat leftovers without turning on the oven or microwave. The best leftovers are crunchy foods, like fried foods, rather than sauce-laden dishes, like pasta.
One of the main problems when using an air fryer is the hassle of cleaning. Most air fryers have removable components that are individually hand washable (don’t be tempted to put them in the dishwasher), and we recommend cleaning them after each use. However, if you want to reduce the amount of cleaning, you will need to clean the air fryer basket and cover it with aluminum foil and replace it between each use. However, this does not eliminate the need for cleaning!
Some people place a piece of bread in the bottom of the basket, between the inner and outer compartments of the air fryer basket, to absorb grease and aid in the cleaning process.
Air fryers are designed to fry with hot air instead of fat. Therefore, be sure not to over-grease your food as this can lead to smoking.
You can use any ovenproof dish or dish that fits your Airfryer. This is especially useful if you want to cook something with a sauce based on the tips above. Silicone cookware is best because it is malleable and can adapt to the shape of the air fryer basket more easily.
When making sponge cakes or cakes in the air fryer, be sure to cut the parchment paper so that it is flush with the edge of the pan. Otherwise, gusty winds can cause excess paper on top to flap, causing the cake to warp.
Every air fryer cooks differently, so it’s best to check that your food is cooking correctly rather than just considering the cooking time indicated in the recipe. Over time, you’ll get a better feel for how quickly your air fryer cooks.
