19th Pediatric Blood and Bone Marrow Registry Conducted in Santa Fe

On Thursday, August 24th, the “Cuenta Conmigo” team from Manos Abiertas Santa Fe will perform the 19th Blood Drive and Bone Marrow Registration together with CUDAIO Santa Fe.

The event will be held at the Colegio Inmaculada at San Martín 1540 from 8 am to 12 noon.

The main function of the program is to build smiles in children hospitalized in Pediatric Oncology through games and activities. “We go to the hospital to steal what we call smiles from the children of cancer patients who have been in the hospital for months. We bring them plazas, theaters and cinemas, and activities they cannot attend”, Pacifico explained.

Regarding the next collection, organizers assured that volunteers will be “received in a relaxed atmosphere outside the hospital. Afterwards, thanks to the godparents, we will serve a hearty breakfast”.

Donors are advised not to participate in a complete fast. They can eat: tea with sugar or yerba mate, water biscuits with jam, or fruit or juice.

Dairy products or fatty foods (e.g. milk, milk juice, fatty biscuits, bread, etc.) should not be eaten under any circumstances.

A light, low-fat lunch is available to those who donate within the last few hours.

Those wishing to participate in the program must register via the link below, provide their information and select the shift they wish to attend.

Blood donation requirements:

• Between the ages of 18 and 65

• Minors under 18 years old (over 16 years old) can make donations accompanied by parents or family members

• Have not donated blood in the past three months

• If you have a tattoo or piercing, at least one year has passed since it was applied.

• If you had an endoscopy, wait 12 months

• Have not had sex with a casual partner in the last year

• Surgery or microsurgery must wait 12 months

• Do not use IV drugs

• Not suffering from blood-borne diseases: hepatitis, Chagas disease, etc.

• Anyone with hepatitis before the age of 10 can become a blood donor. Anyone with hepatitis after the age of 10 must show proof that they do not have hepatitis B or C in order to donate.

• Anyone who has been vaccinated against the flu can donate blood within 72 hours. After receipt (as long as there is no fever)

• If you have dengue fever, you must wait 3 months before donating blood

• If you have COVID 19, you can donate blood and register as a potential bone marrow donor 10 days after discharge from the hospital. If you have been vaccinated against COVID 19, you can donate blood and register as a potential bone marrow donor 72 hours after receiving a dose of the vaccine.
