40% IRA increase; extended hours required

According to epidemiological data for the past week, there has been an increase in acute respiratory infections (ARIs) in Chuquisaka. Faced with this situation, the relevant departments of the headquarters came forward and suggested that the education department resume the extension of winter school hours and strengthen the vaccination of the most severely affected primary children.

César Ríos, head of epidemiology at headquarters, explained that compared to last week, ARDs with pneumonia have increased by 30%, and ARDs without pneumonia have increased 40%.

“We recommend maintaining extended winter school hours because these seasonal changes will lead to an increase in cases,” he said. He said they will meet with the education department this week to assess the return to school after the winter break.

In addition to the resumption of extended working hours, within the framework of the epidemiological alert implemented at the national level, they will also recommend at that meeting the continued use of masks and other biosecurity measures.

The group most affected by ARI is children under 5 years of age, followed by children 5 to 14 years of age. For this reason, Rios emphasized that vaccination should be strengthened in the early stage.

Despite the increase in cases, Chuquisaka has not entered the affected area. They attribute this to good vaccination coverage achieved by vaccination campaigns in educational institutions since mid-June.
