There are films that have always been a part of our lives and will always accompany us. Some delve inside and remain in the heart, others recall childhood, and still others offer carelessness. The most important of the film cultures, able to offer new perspectives on life and able to mark popular culture, are:
- The Shawshank Redemption, 1994, written and directed by Frank Darabont. Based on the short story “Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption” by Stephen King. - Forrest Gump, 1994, directed by Robert Zemeckis and starring the unforgettable Tom Hanks, a boy with a cognitive impairment who talks about his incredible life while sitting on a bench. The film spans about thirty years, during which the history of the United States is intertwined with the history of Forrest, a bystander to many important events. A touching film that reveals the meaning of life.
- Fight Club 1999, directed by David Fincher, with Brad Pitt and Edwards Norton. It is based on the novel of the same name by Chuck Palahniuk and is an anti-consumer manifesto against the alienation of modern man. This is a film that tells a story that balances between dream and reality: the main character, an unnamed insurance consultant, meets Tyler Durden, an eccentric character with whom he forms a fight club to vent his repressed aggression. Problems arise when one starts wondering about Tyler Durden’s true identity.
- Life is Beautifula cinematic work that has dedicated Roberto Benigni to international cinema since 1997, tells the love story of a father, Guido Orefice (played by Benigni himself), who trying to protect his son Joshua from the horrors of the Holocaust, making him believe that this is a game show with difficult challenges to overcome. A masterpiece that touched everyone’s heart, thanks to the sweet and touching interpretation of the main characters and the unusual soundtrack.
- Origin, a complex film in which the plot never seems to unravel, moving down ever more hidden paths. Since 2010 written and directed by Christopher Nolan with Leonardo DiCaprio, Tom Hardy and Marion Cotillard. Something between action, thriller and fantasy. Inception tells about Dominic’s special ability, “Dobba” Cobb, to enter other people’s dreams to get secrets, and how it will be used by the powerful Japanese tycoon Saito.
- Great beauty, great success in 2013, directed by Paolo Sorrentino is a film about the worldly life of the charming sixty-five-year-old journalist Jep Gambardella (Tony Servillo). In the background is the Rome of Miracles, the capital of a society with grotesque features. A living theater that comes to life at night and disappears with the first rays of dawn, where each character wears an evening dress, trying to contain the terrible inner loneliness.
- Taxi Driver, 1976, Martin Scorsese, directed by Robert De Niro. The film is set in a nighttime and decadent New York City. The story is told through the eyes of Travis Bickle, a war veteran who works as a taxi driver. Already characterized by a particularly sensitive and unstable character. The driver is slowly spiraling into a dangerous spiral of insanity driven by a desire to rebel against an unjust and corrupt society. “Taxi Driver” is a real pillar of the director’s cinematography.
