In addition to the great gymnastics seen in Italy, two very important foreign events were held these days for artistic gymnastics and the upcoming competitions: the African Championships and the Pan-American Championships.
African Championships They were held in Pretoria, South Africa, and saw Egypt win and consequently qualify for the World Cup in the men’s field. As far as the women’s championship is concerned, South Africa won. Egypt’s Omar Mohammed and Algeria’s Kaylia Nemour excelled in the AA respectively. The latter has officially taken away the pass to the World Cup after a troubled past months. Egypt received a total of 5 medals (including 2 gold), while Algeria received 4.
Gymnasts who have managed to qualify individually are: Hilal Metidji (Algeria) and Hamza Hosseini (Morocco) in the men’s competition. In the women’s field: Kaylia Nemour (Algeria) as already mentioned, Jana Abdelsalam (Egypt), Sandra Elsadek (Egypt), and Lahna Salem (Algeria).
Making noise these days isn’t just Kaylia Nemour’s ability, which we told you about earlier, but also her practice with the parallel bars. Pan American Championships Held in Medellin, Colombia, the United States returned home with a haul of 20 medals, with both the men’s and women’s teams winning.
In the men’s category, the United States is 10 points behind the runner-up, the Canadian team, followed by Brazil, Colombia and Argentina. Colombia and Canada are the two teams that have earned passes for the World Cup. Yul Moldeur (USA) also won gold in the all-around, floor exercise and parallel bars. Countryman Curran Phillips in barre and Khoi Young on pommel horse.
To receive an individual pass to the Antwerp World Championships, gymnasts had to finish in the top 17 all-rounders (excluding athletes who have already qualified through their national team). Isaac Núñez (Mexico), Joel Álvarez (Chile), Andrés Pérez (Puerto Rico), Santiago Mayol (Argentina), Rodrigo Gómez (Mexico) and Diorges Escobar Olmo (Cuba) were successful.
For the women’s delegation, however, this gold for the United States is the first since 2018. It ranks second for Mexico and third for Canada, followed by Argentina and Brazil. Mexico and Argentina are the two teams that we will be watching in the World Cup. Tiana Sumanasekera (USA) also excelled in the general circuit and 10cm beam. While teammates Jocelyn Roberson and Nola Mathews won with floor exercise and parallel bars, respectively. Alexa Moreno (Mexico) won the Vault.
Gymnasts with individual qualifications for the World Championships are: Sydney Barros (Puerto Rico), Olivia Kelly (Barbados), Carla Navas (Panama), Gina Escobar (Colombia), Alice Perea (Ecuador), Linzi Brown (Haiti), Macarena Pinto (Chile), Yiseth Valenzuela (Colombia), Francesca Santi (Chile), Lana Herrera (Pan) and Ana Karina Mendez (Peru).
