,Long live Coldplay, a global success story‘ is the title of the new biography signed by fabrizio sandrini Wednesday 31 May, published by Il Castello Brand Chinasky edition. ‘Viva Coldplay’ is the only biography in the world that comprehensively collects all the events of the band up to the present day. The story of four friends who decide to form a band, a band destined to be defined as the ‘modern Beatles’ (Justin Timberlake). Like the Fab Four, the members of Coldplay are also distinguished by their uniqueness. The book begins with exactly the background where eager vocalist Chris Martin, shy guitarist Johnny Buckland, obscure bassist Guy Berryman and eclectic drummer Will Champion grew up. The year 1996 is when the band takes its first steps among a thousand insecurities, but the actual recording starts in 1998 with the EP ‘Security’. Sifting through their discography, books and dozens of interviews, Sandrini returns a snapshot of an atypical band, starting with frontman Chris Martin. Far from antirockstar and overbearing, Coldplay has become a new model based on qualities such as kindness, availability, courtesy and decency. A global success that went from the studio sessions where the songs are born, to comparisons with producers such as Dan Keeling or Brian Eno, creators of the sound that made them loved (or hated) by the public, critics and collaborators. Colleagues like Liam Gallagher who first insult him and then hit back saying: “How well you play Chris. I take back everything I said about you.”

but also a friendship with Muse, who shares with him a shame of always being compared to Radiohead. The volume honestly analyzes all the stages the band has faced along the way to publishing their albums, from discography to relationships with fans, from world tours to promotion and communication strategies. But the skies are not always clear for the English quartet. Several passages are devoted – in fact – specifically to Chris Martin, for the suffocating episode with the paparazzi. This is also due to the marriage and then divorce with Hollywood star Gwyneth Paltrow, until an engagement with the equally famous actress Dakota Johnson. His popularity grows and sales grow, but various allegations of plagiarism begin to surface. Between the real and the supposed, the best-known belong to Guitar Hero Joe Satriani and the legendary singer-songwriter Cat Stevens. Between endorsements from stalwarts like Elton John (“Yellow is the only song of the last five years I wish I’d written”) and Madonna (“Coldplay singer Chris Martin is incredibly talented”), there’s no shortage of barbs from detractors. “It’s disgusting being a band that always plays the same thing and doesn’t bother anyone” without half measures, to name a few Alex Turner of the Arctic Monkeys, while Bono defines Chris as “a whore”. But then took it back. Another fundamental theme related to the band is international social commitment, as well as the fight for the environment. From collaboration with Oxfam to travel between Africa and Latin America, to the recent theme of eco-sustainability in world tourism.

Next dates that will also touch Italy (June 21-22 Naples and June 25-26-28-29 Milan), are designed with zero environmental impact by the wishes of the band. Between anecdotes, interviews and reviews from the international music press, ‘Viva Coldplay’ summarizes the band’s twenty years of history by accurately portraying all public aspects, but without neglecting the protagonists’ feelings and personal portraits.
