Stephen Curry joins Serena Williams, Klay Thompson as investors in Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy Indoor Golf Alliance

Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry is as much of a golf fan as anyone in the NBA. Now the 35-year-old is an investor in TGL, the indoor, technology-focused golf league led by Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy.

Curry and Marc Lasry, CEO of investment firm Avenue Capital Group and a former partner in the Milwaukee Bucks, will back TGL’s San Francisco team, the league announced Thursday. Curry’s Golden State backcourt teammate Klay Thompson and former Warriors player Andre Iguodala are also listed as investors.

Curry is no stranger to golf. The two-time NBA MVP attended Charlotte High School, played on two Korn Ferry Tours, competed on two The Match competitions and won the celebrity event the American Century Championship in thrilling fashion in July.

The future Hall of Famer was awarded the Charlie Sifford Award on Tuesday for his work with Underrated Golf, a program that provides underserved communities with opportunities to play the sport. Curry also sponsored Howard University’s men’s and women’s golf programs for six years, helping both programs get off the ground.

“Avenue is excited to partner with Stephen Curry and partner with TMRW Sports as part of the TGL founding team,” Lasry said in the release. “Our ownership team is excited to serve as stewards of TGL San Francisco and represent North America. California, Northern California is the epicenter of technological innovation and the perfect location for the TGL team in this extraordinary new sports league.”

TGL will begin play in January 2024 with a 15-game regular season on ABC, ESPN, ESPN+ and ESPN2. In addition to TGL San Francisco, the league also includes Atlanta Strip FC (backed by Atlanta Falcons and Atlanta United owner Arthur Blank), TGL Boston (backed by Fenway Sports Group), Los Angeles Golf Club (backed by Alexis Ohanian, Serena Williams and Venus Williams) and TGL New York (backed by New York Mets owner Steve Cohen). Its sixth and final team has yet to be announced.

TGL finalized its 24-player roster on Tuesday, which includes major PGA Tour stars such as Jon Rahm, Justin Thomas and Collin Morikawa, as well as Woods and McIlroy. Each team will have four players.
