Thousands of concertgoers may have been exposed to hepatitis A during nine performances at Clarkston’s Pine Knob Music Theater, according to the Oakland County Health Department.
The health department advises anyone who attended the Ivy Lounge while attending a concert at Pine Knob between Aug. 26 and Sept. 8 to monitor themselves for symptoms and, if not vaccinated against hepatitis A, get vaccinated as soon as possible.
For those exposed at the Jason Aldean concert on September 17th. Saturday, 8, September. According to the health department, the 23rd is the last day for vaccination.
“For those who attended the Jason Aldean concert and dined at the Ivy Lounge, the window to get vaccinated to help prevent hepatitis A disease begins tomorrow,” said Oakland County Medical Director Dr. Russell Faust. “For anyone who has not been vaccinated against hepatitis A, People who are vaccinated against hepatitis are encouraged to get vaccinated to prevent future exposure.”
Hepatitis A is a highly contagious liver infection caused by a virus. It is most commonly spread from person to person through food or water contaminated with feces from an infected person. Symptoms may appear two to six weeks after exposure and include sudden abdominal pain, fatigue, diarrhea, nausea, headache, dark urine and vomiting, followed by yellowing of the skin and eyes. In rare cases of hepatitis A infection, those with severe illness or a compromised immune system may progress to liver failure.
Affected concerts include Lynyrd Skynyrd (August 26), Arctic Monkeys (August 29), Foreigner (August 30), Disturbed (September 1), Beck and Phoenix (September 2), Pentatonix (September 3), Rob Zombie (September 5), Smashing Pumpkins (September 6) and Jason Aldean (September 8).
All potentially exposed individuals should watch for symptoms and contact a health care provider to report possible exposure if sick.
