American authorities have announced the arrest of 119 people registered on terrorist lists who were trying to infiltrate across the border
Impeached House Speaker Kevin McCarthy warned of the possibility of sleeper terrorist cells hiding in the United States and awaiting orders to move amid unprecedented illegal immigration at the southern border.
“If you just look at the chaos right now, at the wide open southern border, I’m worried about a cell inside America today,” the Republican congressman said on NBC’s Meet the Press.
The former spokesperson said this, citing a recent Customs and Border Protection report, which shows that 169 people who were on the terrorism watch list have been arrested in the last 12 months.
He pointed out that the alarming numbers show that the number of terrorists trying to enter the United States through the southern border last year was greater than in the last six fiscal years combined.
He explained: “When we look at the Middle East and the uprisings that have emerged in Europe and elsewhere, there may be sleeper cells now in America.
“But this administration has done nothing to change what is happening at the southern border,” McCarthy continued.
He added that if he were speaker of the House of Representatives, “I would have made sure that we looked at our borders and that we didn’t have sleeper cells here, and that we would have stopped these terrorists from crossing our borders.”
In the interview, McCarthy expressed his support for the nomination of Representative Tom Emmer, Republican of Minnesota, as speaker of the House, of whom he said: “He has been part of our successes … from the beginning.”
“I will do everything I can to help protect America,” McCarthy said of possibly seeking the speakership again.
He continued: “I will work to protect our borders. I will work to stop inflation. I will make sure that a war does not break out in Israel and that Israel has all the resources it needs to defend itself. But above all, I will put pressure on this administration” .
“We must destroy Hamas,” he continued, adding: “But we cannot do it without confronting Iran,” which he said “receives billions of dollars to finance terrorism around the world.”
“We must be very clear: Every American must go home and no one will be left behind,” McCarthy said of prisoners held by Hamas.
