They require seniors to get vaccinated against pneumonia and meningitis

Ensenada.- Older people are more susceptible to pneumonia and meningitis during the winter, so starting at age 60, it is necessary to protect themselves with a single dose of the pneumococcal vaccine.

The biological agent is available in all health centers in the Ensenada Health Services jurisdiction, the Ministry of Health reported.

Isela Flores Hinojosa, jurisdictional manager of the Universal Vaccination Program, emphasized that this vaccine can be used immediately after Covid-19 and influenza.

“For the elderly, single-dose injections are required starting at age 60; for girls and boys, the program starts at 2 months and intensifies at 4 and 12 months,” he recalled.

He mentioned that the health center is open from Monday to Friday from 8:30 am to 1:00 pm.

In addition, state officials said the Ruiz y 14 Health Center has extended its operating hours, with one module on Ruiz Street from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm and the module within the unit from 2:00 to 6:00 this afternoon.

He insisted that vaccination is an effective and safe measure to prevent the disease.

“Vaccines can prevent fatal diseases caused by pneumococcal bacteria and reduce the spread of infectious agents,” he stressed.

Flores Hinojosa reminded the public that there is also a flu vaccine for vulnerable groups, including pregnant women, the elderly and children, as well as a Covid-19 vaccine for seniors, medical personnel, people with certain comorbidities and first responders.
