The Bolivian Pulmonary Society recommends declaring a respiratory health emergency due to severe environmental pollution caused by forest fires in several areas of the country.
Experts have warned that the smoke is “potentially dangerous” to all residents in the short, medium and long term.
They also recommend resuming the use of chin or face masks, especially for sensitive people with conditions such as bronchial asthma, chronic bronchitis, and anyone with chronic bronchopulmonary disease, including lung cancer and those with recent or advanced COVID-19 infection.
“Use air purifiers in places or homes where sensitive and high-risk people live” is another recommendation from doctors.
Another recommendation is that people should stay at home, avoid opening doors and windows, and avoid prolonged contact in open spaces such as patios and balconies.
