The Pentagon announces the failure of an attack on American forces in Iraq

The Pentagon announced Thursday that American forces had been targeted in Iraq on Thursday morning, but the attack was a failure.

Over the past week, sites containing American forces in Iraq and Syria have been attacked by missiles and drones, one of which resulted in “minor” casualties, according to the US military.

The Pentagon has revealed that American forces have been attacked by Iranian-allied groups at least 12 times in Iraq and four times in Syria in the past week.

Several armed factions close to Iran have threatened to attack American interests, against the backdrop of Washington’s support for Israel following the attack launched by Hamas on October 7, which killed more than 1,400 people in Israel.

The United States employs around 900 soldiers in Syria and 2,500 soldiers in Iraq, as part of the fight against ISIS, which controlled large areas of the two countries’ territory before being defeated by local forces supported by air strikes carried out by a coalition militia international led by Washington.

On Wednesday, US President Joe Biden directly warned Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei of the continuation of attacks against American forces in the region, which have increased after the outbreak of a new war between Hamas and Israel, which could announce the expansion of the conflict with neighboring countries.

The American president confirmed on Wednesday that American forces are present in the region to support the international coalition’s efforts to defeat ISIS and that they have nothing to do with the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas.

The White House accuses Iran of “facilitating” attacks against bases hosting American forces in the Middle East.
