Collin Morikawa is excited to be a member of TGL Los Angeles Golf Club. The team is owned by Alexis Ohanian, Serena Williams and Venus Williams. TGL involves multiple ownership groups, with the one in Los Angeles appearing to be the brightest.
Morikawa has strong ties to Los Angeles, which is why Ohanian and company wanted to get him involved. It’s one of the first things he mentions when he asks golfers, and the golfers feel honored.
Ohanian called Colin Morikawa and asked if he wanted to be the first official member of his team. The golfer responded (via NUCLR GOLF):
“Of course, I’m in. I’m just chilling, I don’t think I’ve ever had a call like this, this year I got the call for the Ryder Cup, but I think that’s almost the most important thing. Yeah, almost. We Some history will be made and I’m excited to be a part of the team. Thank you! Can’t wait to represent Los Angeles and Los Angeles Golf Club.”
The excitement was palpable, and it was obvious that Morikawa wanted to agree. He barely waited for Ohanian to finish before confirming he would be joining the team. With the TGL expected to begin in January, Los Angeles Golf Club will have to replenish the rest of the squad, but they now have a starting point.
Collin Morikawa joins possibly the biggest TGL team
According to a statement from CBS Sports, TGL was excited to have Reddit founder Alexis Ohanian and his partners when they were starting out:
“We are honored to welcome Alexis, Serena and Venus as one of TGL’s original six-team ownership groups. By owning Angel City FC, Alexis has become a trailblazer in the professional sports world in Southern California.”
It’s hard to imagine a more star-studded ownership group. Things are going great at Los Angeles Golf Club and they want Collin Morikawa.
Ohanian is a big piece of the puzzle, and a big one for Los Angeles. From his perspective, the PGA Tour star is the next piece of the puzzle and the first golfer to join the roster.
This is high praise for a golf league that includes Rory McIlroy, Jon Rahm, Matthew Fitzpatrick, Justin Thomas, Patrick Cantlay and many other superstars in golf.
TGL is always growing and it has the opportunity to revolutionize the sport. It won’t start until 2024, but as fans know, it looks certain to change the game of golf. That makes getting the team right an important step, something Ohanian believes he has done with Collin Morikawa.
The golfer recently won the Zozo Championship with an incredible -14, while his next closest competitor, Eric Cole, was -8. Collin Morikawa is in fine form and will be a key part of Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy’s new TGL next year.
