Temperatures reach 7° between winter and rainy season

Although December and January are expected to be the coldest temperatures in the communities of Sierra Negra, the weather has been quite severe since the first week of November, so that between cold fronts and rains, temperatures have reached as high as 7 degrees. Involves the community of San Francisco Xitlama in the municipality of Zoquitlán.

Assistant President Cristóbal Coello explained that due to the ongoing weather conditions in Cittrama, families usually do not go out because of the heavy fog and mud caused by the rains, but fortunately the rains had no impact into people’s lives. Although not so intense as to cause landslides, the cold was intense enough to cause health effects such as coughs and colds.

He added that, like other years, temperatures in December and January can reach 0 degrees or even -2 degrees (frost), especially in the upper part of the community, where an average of 100 of Xitlama’s 3,000 residents live. Every year, they are offered shelter in auxiliary halls set up as shelters, but almost never accept them for fear of leaving home unhoused.

In view of this, he pointed out that the auxiliary authorities maintain continuous monitoring and patrols in the eight communities to promptly deal with possible situations, as there are many people living in houses with tile or sheet roofs who are more vulnerable to injury. In addition, please pay attention to placing stoves or firewood in closed places to avoid carbon monoxide poisoning.
