Anne Boyer, poetry editor of the Sunday Supplement of The New York Times, one of the leading newspapers in the United States of America, announced her resignation through a letter posted on her personal page. Boyer said in his resignation letter that “the war waged by Israel against the people of Gaza with the support of the United States is in no one’s interest.”
Pointing out that there is no security in this war for Israel, the United States, Europe, and especially the Jewish people, Boyer said: “This war only serves the deadly profits of oil and arms producers.”
In his resignation letter, Boyer said: “The world, our future, and our hearts have become smaller and harsher because of this war. This is not just a war with missiles and the occupation of lands. It is a war against the Palestinian people who have resisted.” Occupation, forced displacement, deprivation, controls, siege, prisons and torture for decades of “war”. He included his statements.
“No more disgusting literary words”
Emphasizing that the most productive way to protest for artists is sometimes to “say no,” Boyer concluded his message as follows:
“I cannot write poetry in a ‘reasonable’ tone intended to accustom us to this climate of irrational suffering.” No more disgusting euphemisms. No more hellscapes filtered through words. No more warmongering lies. “If this resignation leaves a poem-sized void in the world of news, then this is the true shape of the moment.”
