Health records 32 people have died from pneumonia so far this year – Tu Diario Huánuco

As of the 44th week of this year (October 30 to November 5), 32 people have died of pneumonia in Huanuco Province, of which 11 are children under 5 years old and 21 are elderly people over 60 years old. According to the epidemiological bulletin issued by the Huanuco Regional Health Directorate.

The report details that there were 931 confirmed cases of pneumonia in children under 5 years old, 11 deaths, and a mortality rate of 1.2; among people over 60 years old, 733 cases were confirmed, 21 deaths, and a mortality rate of 2.9%. This means the death rate is higher for people over 60.

It also indicated the death of another three-month-old minor from the Ucayali Padre Abad province who was admitted to Tingo Maria Hospital with serious health problems and a poor prognosis.

Regarding acute respiratory infections (ARI), as of the 44th epidemiological week, Huanuco Province has reported 65,328 cases of illness in children under 5 years old. The cumulative incidence rate has dropped by 5.4% compared with 2022 and 8.1% compared with 2020. 2022 and 2019 are in the same evaluation period.

Regarding diabetes, there has been an increase in new cases detected this year, with 1,240 cases occurring as of week 44, an increase of 3,957 people with this health problem since 2015.

In 2015, they found 99 cases, in 2016 there were 278 cases, in 2017 there were 187 new cases, in 2018 203 cases were registered, in 2019 237 cases were counted, and in 2020 there were only 79 cases (the first year of the pandemic) , they found 432 cases in 2021, 832 cases in 2022, and 1,240 cases in 2023.

Two aspects to consider are that in 2023, 62.7% of cases were female and 37.3% were male; 53% were detected in EsSalud (49% in Huánuco and 4% in Tingo María). 27.5% occurred mainly in institutions I, 3 and I.4, and 12% mainly in the Hermilio Valdizán Regional Hospital.
