Nearly 155,000 Nicaraguan girls vaccinated against HPV

Ministry of Health (Minsa) authorities reported via their social networks that as of November 19, they had administered a total of 154,131 doses of human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine to girls aged 10 to 14 years.

According to Minsa, Nicaragua has made 51% progress towards its target of 259,907 girls aged 10 to 14 wishing to be vaccinated.

The Ministry of Health announced in a press release shared with state media that they will “complete the first dose of human papillomavirus vaccine for girls aged 10 to 14 years, with a total of 425,831 doses administered.”

According to the Ministry of Health, the HPV vaccine is being used in all health centers across the country. People wishing to bring minors for HPV vaccination must bring the minor’s birth certificate (so the health department can verify age) and their respective vaccine cards.

Minsa announces second vaccination campaign

The Ministry of Health also revealed in the letter that “the second national vaccination campaign of 2023 will be carried out from November 27 to December 22, with Saturday, December 16 and Sunday, December 17 being sports center days.”

In the second campaign, they detailed the implementation and completion of a national vaccination program for children and adults, which will protect them against: “severe forms of tuberculosis, polio, diphtheria, whooping cough, Tetanus, hepatitis B, viral meningitis, bacterial meningitis, viral pneumonia, bacterial pneumonia, bacterial otitis media, severe diarrhea caused by rotavirus, measles, rubella, mumps, influenza and Covid-19.
