Gibraltar hospitals are currently experiencing seasonal influenza outbreaks. Sources close to the Gibraltar government said the incident affected a specific ward at the hospital which is being managed and “all infection control measures” have been reviewed.
The Gibraltar Health Authority (GHA) has asked relatives of hospitalized patients “if you have symptoms of cold and flu, or diarrhea and vomiting, please do not go to St Bernard’s Hospital or the emergency department to visit family or friends. “This is to prevent the spread of infection to Patients and residents in the community who are at higher risk for influenza and other winter viruses. “
Likewise, the GHA asks that “if you are experiencing symptoms and are attending an outpatient appointment at a hospital or primary care center, please cancel and reschedule the appointment or wear a mask at all times.”
Dr Helen Carter, director of public health, said: “Global Health soon became aware of an outbreak of influenza on a ward in the hospital. This is not unexpected at this time of year as we are starting to see an increase in viruses, including seasonal influenza. I would like to borrow This is an opportunity to remind family and friends to be aware of cold and flu symptoms. Even if you test negative for COVID-19, you may have the flu. Please do not go to the hospital or visit family or loved ones.
