Amid violations witnessed in the temporary truce between Israel and Palestinian factions in several areas in the northern and southern Gaza Strip, Palestinian factions called for a permanent ceasefire on Tuesday.

In a joint statement, he stressed the need to “stop the brutal war in Gaza comprehensively,” as he put it.

It also confirmed that it is monitoring violations of the temporary truce by Israeli forces, calling on mediators to force them to stop.

Furthermore, he expressed his appreciation for the roles of Egypt and Qatar in the prisoners’ agreement and the temporary ceasefire.

He appealed to Egypt to take in more of the wounded in need of treatment.

While the temporary ceasefire, extended for 4 days, between Israel and Palestinian factions in the Gaza Strip led to the release of 68 Israeli prisoners, as well as workers of other nationalities, in exchange for 150 Palestinian women and children who had been languishing for months and years in Israeli prisons.

It also paved the way for more rescue trucks to enter the densely populated sector.

Interestingly, Israel has imposed an “absolute siege” on the Gaza Strip, which was already under a siege since Hamas came to power in 2007, since October 9, cutting off water, food, electricity, medicine and fuel, in following the Hamas attack.

While, according to the United Nations, more than half of the homes in the Strip have been damaged or destroyed due to violent Israeli raids. Around 1.7 million out of 2.4 million Palestinians have been forced to flee their homes in the northern and southern Gaza Strip.
