Egypt seeks extension of Gaza ceasefire

Egyptian authorities confirmed on Thursday that talks were underway with the Israeli government and the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas to extend a temporary truce in the Gaza Strip for another two days, hours after the two sides struck a last-minute deal. In this sense, the Egyptian spokesman called on Israel and Hamas to abide by the agreements reached and declared that Egypt “Will do everything possible” to ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid throughout the Gaza Strip, including in the northern part of the territory, which is the center of Israel’s military offensive following Hamas attacks, Egypt’s Al-Ahram newspaper reported.

After Hamas launched an attack on October 7, the Israeli army launched an offensive into the Palestinian enclave, killing about 1,200 people and abducting nearly 240 people, including 20 Argentine nationals, a dozen of whom have been released.
