According to Pulitzer Prize winner David Halberstam, the commissioner was one of the people who was very pleased with Jordan. Although Jordan was busy achieving goals that many thought were impossible, he attracted more attention from around the league each season. After each series, Stern rewards the champions with a brand new car in recognition of their skills. At one point, he thought he had become the champion’s personal car attendant.

Speaking of Jordan’s unparalleled obsession and desire to win, Halberstam wrote: “Time and time again, he was named the league and playoff MVP, and time and time again, he seemed able to lead a group of good, but not always great, teammates to a championship level. “ I’ve added, “At the end of each series, the MVP is officially awarded a new car, presented personally by David Stern; in recent years, Stern began calling himself Jordan’s car valet.”
