It’s no secret that Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen’s relationship has been going on in recent years.
The duo was a catalyst on the court for the Bulls’ six championships in the 1990s, but was also considered good friends off the court. They weren’t enemies then, but they weren’t friends either. In recent years, there have been some incidents that have caused the relationship between the two to deteriorate.
On Friday, the Bulls will recognize and celebrate the 13 inductees who have qualified for the inaugural Ring of Honor. Pippen and Jordan were both first-class players. All eyes are on the event to see who will be attending.
Jordan will not attend the event. He did, however, share a video thanking the Reinsdorfs and fans.
Pippen is not expected Also attend the event.
“It would be better if everyone was here,” Reinsdorf said when asked about the inductees’ attendance. “We know not everyone can get in.”
The reason why Jordan and Pippen did not attend is unclear. It is unclear whether their absences are related to each other. Regardless, here’s what happened between Jordan and Pippen that led to the breakdown of their relationship.

Jordan and Pippen played 10 seasons together for the Bulls. They won six championships together, cementing themselves as one of the greatest duos in NBA history.
The last time the two played together in an NBA game was Game 6 of the 1998 Finals. Jordan famously drained the go-ahead jumper from the free throw line to win the Bulls their sixth championship in eight seasons.
Pippen’s 47th birthday
In 2012, Jordan celebrated in Chicago, attending Pippen’s surprise 47th birthday party. The two shared photos and the party looked like it was 1998 again.
Of course, they’ve seen each other since then. But off the court, it was an example of their once-long-standing off-court friendship.

In April 2020, Netflix released the documentary “The Last Dance” focusing on the Chicago Bulls and Jordan in the 1990s. The documentary was co-produced by Jordan’s production company, Jump 23. As he told his story, several players, including Pippen, endured the poor portrayal in the documentary.
It’s well-documented that the 10-part series wouldn’t have been released without Jordan’s permission. This means Jordan has complete creative control over the documentary. Pippen’s decision to postpone ankle surgery in the summer of 1997 left him looking weak on several occasions.
“I don’t think that’s that accurate in terms of what really defined what was accomplished in one of basketball’s greatest eras and what was accomplished by two of its greatest players — one could even put that aside and say that was the greatest It’s time for great teams,” Pippen told guardian.
“I don’t think those things stand out in the documentary. I think it’s more of Michael trying to elevate himself and get glory. I think it’s counterproductive in a way, too, because people get a chance to see Michael’s character.”
Undefended Memoirs
In November 2021, Pippen published his memoir “Unguarded”.
Much of the book focuses on Pippen’s “Last Dance” argument. He pointed out some misleading instances in the documentary while changing the story with his own version.
Pippen wrote: “Every episode is the same: Michael is on top, his teammates are secondary, smaller, and the message is no different than when he called us his ‘supporting cast’ back then. “They praised Michael Jordan but not enough praise for me and my proud teammates.
“To make matters worse, Michael received $10 million for his role in the documentary while my teammates and I didn’t make a dime, which is yet another reminder of the pecking order of the past. Throughout the season, we Allowing cameras into the sacred space of our locker rooms, our practices, our hotels, our parties…our lives,” Pippen wrote.
Marcus Jordan and Larsa Pippen
In December 2021, Pippen divorced “Real Housewives of Miami” star Larsa Pippen. Nearly a year later, in September 2022, Pippen’s ex-wife and Jordan’s son Marcus began dating.
Larsa, 49, and Marcus, 32, spoke about their romantic awkwardness on a podcast in November 2023.
“It’s embarrassing,” Larsa said on the “Pablo Torre Discovery” podcast. “It’s weird. I get it. But for us, it’s not weird… it’s possible for the world It’s weird because our last name is so well-known in basketball history…I know aesthetically it might not look good.”
When asking his father about the relationship, Marcus said Jordan took a laissez-faire approach to the whole situation.
“(Jordan) said, ‘You’re a grown man. You can make your own decisions,'” Marcus said. “Ultimately, as long as I’m happy, he’s happy. He’s never interfered with my dating life before Larsa, so he’s not going to start now.”
In November, Marcus confirmed that he and Larsa were planning a wedding.
“It’s under development,” Marcus said. and!information. “I don’t think we have a date yet. We’re still discussing locations and party sizes and all those things. So it’s not very concrete yet. But it will happen.”
What does he have to say to those who doubt the sincerity of his relationship with Larsa?
“Fuck them,” Marcus said. “That’s my mindset. I just feel like we complement each other in a lot of different ways. She was having a great day and I was there to support her and vice versa. I feel like we’re living in our truth and anyone who doesn’t feel like that Happy people can be angry.”
Pippen calls Jordan a ‘terrible basketball player’
In May 2023, Pippen joined Stacey King’s “Gimme the Hot Sauce!” podcast to chat with his former teammates.
“Before I came to the Bulls, I watched Michael Jordan play. You guys watched him play. He was a terrible player,” Pippen said. “Playing with him was terrible. It was all one-on-one, shooting was terrible. All of a sudden, we became a team and we started winning. Everybody forgot who he was. He was someone who was really bad at it. Pippen also said in the interview that he didn’t believe his relationship with Jordan or Phil Jackson could improve.

The Bulls will host a special halftime celebration and ceremony for the event. Each member will receive a special trophy designed by Victor Solomon, an updated version of the Larry O’Brien Trophy and five other postseason trophies artist.
