After a fierce bidding war, Warner Bros. has won the rights to the latest collaboration from writer-director-producer Ryan Coogler and star Michael B. Jordan.
Warner Bros. Picture Group’s Michael De Luca and Pam Abdi confirmed that the studio has inked a deal with the pair for the untitled film based on Coogler’s original script. Details about the plot are still being kept under wraps, but it’s been described as an “original genre film.”
The new film marks Coogler and Jordan’s fifth collaboration, starting with 2013’s “Fruitvale Station” and continuing through the “Tenet” and “Black Panther” franchises. DeLuca and Abdi also have a successful track record as part of the pair, having greenlit Creed III during their tenure at MGM.
News of the project surfaced last month when reports surfaced that Coogler and Jordan were teaming up to develop a mysterious new project based on Coogler’s spec script and pitched executives and buyers at WME’s offices. Home display.
Coogler will direct the film, his first from behind the camera since 2022’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, and produce through his production company Proximity Media along with Zinzi Coogler and Sev Ohanian. Proximity’s Rebecca Cho serves as executive producer.
