Horrible news, vampires! Warner Bros. has acquired the rights to Michael B. Jordan and Ryan Coogler’s top-secret film, so we’ve learned more about what to expect from the film…
The film is scheduled to begin production in New Orleans as early as April, according to The Hollywood Reporter , after the studio beat out Universal Pictures in a bidding war. The publication’s detailed account of the deal appears to confirm rumors that the film will be vampire-centric, suggesting it will focus on the “undead,” be influenced by anime, and have huge franchise potential.
Journalist Borys Kit later added on Twitter that the story would likely take place in the 1930s.
The original concept has been kept under wraps, but sources say it was influenced by the undead + a 1930s setting + anime. https://t.co/ututATht4TFebruary 8, 2024
Given that Jordan is a loud and proud anime fan, and has previously detailed how the likes of Naruto, Dragon Ball Z, and One Piece helped him make his directorial debut, Creed 3, it’s not hard to imagine his next move. A project might look like this. Inspired by the same. Coogler directed the original Creed, Fruitvale Station, and Black Panther, as well as producing Creed 3, so he’s clearly involved when it comes to anime influence.
When it comes to their yet-to-be-confirmed new collaboration, Coogler will write and direct, while Jordan will star. Coogler is set to produce alongside Zinzi Coogler and Sev Ohanian under his company Proximity Media.
