NBA fans celebrate Bulls legend Michael Jordan’s 61st birthday

Michael Jordan, widely considered the greatest player in basketball history, celebrated his 61st birthday on Saturday.

Jordan was flooded with birthday wishes on social media, including from his former NBA teams, the Chicago Bulls and Washington Wizards:

Jordan was drafted by the Chicago Bulls with the third overall pick in the 1984 NBA Draft out of North Carolina and began a historic career that is still considered by many to be the measuring stick of the NBA.

In 13 seasons with the Bulls, Jordan won 6 NBA championships, 6 NBA Finals MVP awards and 5 NBA MVP awards, and he was a 5-time scoring champion.

Additionally, he returned after two seasons and spent two productive years with the Wizards, making him a 14-time All-Star in 15 seasons.

He averaged 30.1 points, 6.2 rebounds, 5.3 assists and 2.3 steals in his career, ranking fifth on the NBA’s all-time scoring list with 32,292 points.

Jordan was also a pop culture icon and the face of Nike’s Jordan brand, which helped him become a billionaire in retirement and led to him becoming the owner of the Charlotte Hornets.

Even though Jordan sold a majority stake in the Hornets last year, he remains entrenched in the NBA and basketball world at large, and likely will remain so for decades to come.
