According to a report by the State Health Secretariat, pneumonia became the second leading cause of death in Coahuila in 2023, surpassing diabetes and second only to acute myocardial infarction.

Additionally, within 12 to 36 hours after infection, increased shortness of breath, increased coughing and production of phlegm, and sometimes a bluish appearance of lips and fingernails may indicate the need for emergency hospitalization.
Through transparency requirements, the agency reported that 3,626 people died from heart disease last year, followed by 793 from pneumonia and 706 from type 2 diabetes with other specified complications. The fourth leading cause of death was cirrhosis, with 530 deaths Fifth place was unspecified diabetes with other specified complications, with 490 deaths.
