The National Agricultural Health Service (Senasa) has detected a positive case of avian influenza at a commercial farm located in the Pacangjila area of Chipón department in the La Libertad region.
Miguel Quevedo, head of Senasa, reported that immediate control protocols have been initiated to prevent the spread of the contagious disease.

“The top priority is to control the situation and prevent the spread of the disease. We are working with all relevant parties to implement stringent measures to reduce risks and protect the nation’s poultry health.“He added.
According to a statement from Senasa, the affected birds were disposed of and buried, and all birds on the farm were culled. In accordance with the protocol, epidemiological surveillance is implemented in the area surrounding the focus of the farm and backyard farms.
SENASA advises breeders
Senasa, the country’s top body responsible for agricultural health, has issued advice for breeders. It recommends housing poultry in roofed, fenced spaces, installing footbaths (shoe disinfectants) at fence entrances and ensuring water and feed are kept away from wild birds.
Likewise, require daily cleaning of enclosures, hand washing before and after entering the enclosure to feed or care for birds, and avoid contact between wild birds and backyard birds.
