Michael Jordan hasn’t played NBA basketball in more than two decades. Despite his absence from the court, his Jordan Brand continues to have a major impact on the sports world and beyond. In March 2020, the brand announced a commitment to donate $100 million over the next 10 years to social justice and racial equality efforts.
The move comes in the wake of the tragic murder of George Floyd, which sparked nationwide protests and discussions about systemic racism and police brutality. Known for his competitive nature on the court, Jordan decided to use his platform and resources to address these important issues off the court.

The program, called Black Community Promise, is now in its fourth year. At the Nike Path to Progress ceremony in Washington, D.C., Jordan Brand President Sarah Mensah discussed the brand’s critical role in helping communities move forward.

That’s why we embark on this journey—to be bold, purposeful, and focused on challenging those who threaten us as the United States Systems that give Black people the opportunity to create a more equitable future.”
The work is far from done
Last month, Jordan Brand invested more than $30 million in more than 100 local and national organizations, Mensah revealed. With six years and an estimated $70 million remaining on its original commitment, Jordan Brand is committed to making a meaningful impact on the Black community.
In the book titled “Jordan’s Black Community Commitment Family Album,” Michael Jordan recognizes the hard work and dedication of the Jordan Brand team and partners to create real, lasting change. He also said he would continue to support their work and encouraged others to join the fight for equality.
