The new trailer for Dune: Part Two, launched a few hours ago, reveals new details about Austin Butler’s villain Fayed-Routha, who is shown in black and white in various scenes.

Dune: Part Two’s black-and-white visuals may connect to the Harkonnen homeworld, Giddy Prime
The role of Feyd-Rautha, the nephew of Baron Harkonnen (Stellan Skarsgård), was previously played by Sting in the David Lynch version. Radical Turning Point shows the second trailer for Dune: Part Two, where Fayed-Routha’s look is very different, much more demonic, which is more in line with Barron and Dave Bautista’s look at Glosu Rabban. However, what is surprising about the Austin Butler scenes is that, unlike the rest of the trailer, they are black and white, which suggests that the absence of color is due to the fact that they take place on Giddy Prime, which is the home planet of Harkonnens.
The black-and-white scenes depict Fayed-Routha fighting in gladiatorial games on Gidi Prime for the amusement of his uncle and the assembled elite. Even in these brief glimpses, it is clear that Fayd-Rautha is a fierce fighter, and the planet’s black-and-white appearance is likely a visual touch added by Villeneuve to differentiate Giddy Prime from Arrakis. The trailer also shows the fight between Paul and Feyd-Rautha, a key piece in Frank Herbert’s original novel. The character is important in the Baron’s plans for House Harkonnen, as he wants his nephew to one day become ruler of Arrakis. In many ways, the Fayd-Rautha is a black mirror of Paul’s journey, and both are the result of a centuries-old Bene Gesserit breeding program designed to make Quizzatz Heyderach’s “prophecy” come true.
