Beetlejuice 2 set photos reveal Jenna Ortega’s wedding, Winona Ryder as bridesmaid

The actors aren’t the only iconic element in Beetlejuice 2, as new set photos reveal, Winona Ryder’s memorable style is back as Lydia Deetz. The sequel, which is still in development, will see the return of Ryder as the eponymous bio-exorcist alongside Michael Keaton and Catherine O’Hara as Lydia’s mother, while the franchise stars Jenna Ortega, Justin Theroux, Monica Bellucci and Willem Dafoe would be welcome. Plot details are still a secret, but it looks like the Deetz family is getting bigger.

As production on the highly anticipated sequel continues, new set photos for Beetlejuice 2 have been published by People.

The images, which can be seen above, show Winona Ryder preparing for a scene in which Jenna Ortega aka Lydia attends the wedding of her daughter, the currently unnamed character played by Jenna Ortega. Ortega’s bright pink and white outfit is a stark contrast to the character’s iconic gothic outfit of her mother, who is shown in a black dress under her long coat.

Beetlejuice 2 appears to reverse the dynamic between Ortega and his Best Wednesday character.

In addition to showing the first glimpse of Ortega in the long-awaited sequel, the new Beetlejuice 2 set photos also give the first hint of wedding plot, though it’s unclear who the ceremony is being held with. Given that Keaton’s character at the end of the first Beetlejuice attempts to forcefully marry Lydia in exchange for saving the Maitlands, it may be that his daughter is involved in an unwanted marriage. That said, the bright expression on Ortega’s face indicates both the sincerity in the marriage and the total change in dynamics from her previous collaboration with Burton, Wednesdays on Netflix.

Moving away from the mournful and melancholic Wednesday Adams, Beetlejuice 2 set photos show Ortega playing a more generic character, although Ryder’s Lydia retains her gothic sensibilities from the original film. If so, it’ll be a nice reversal of the dynamic between Ortega’s Wednesdays and roommate Enid, played by the colorful and spirited Emma Myers, a realistic counterpart to the more extravagant dealings of the first.

Reversing this dynamic will also assure audiences that Ortega won’t be confined to the same roles after Beetlejuice 2. Longtime fans of Burton have already commented on his ability to display an actor’s range with Ryder. From goth Lydia to preppy, Kim in Edward Scissorhands. With Ortega herself showing her versatility in the horror genre between the quiet Lorraine of TI West’s ex and the energetic survivor Tara in Scream and Scream 6, it will be interesting to see what direction she takes in the future.
