Patricia Rojas, assistant director of the “Eva Peron” Children’s Hospital, commented that there has been an increase in cases of influenza A and COVID-19 in children’s care.

“Since the hospital is still the surveillance unit of the pediatric department in the province, we have seen an increase in cases of influenza A, a virus that causes respiratory tract infections, especially lower respiratory tract infections, including pneumonia, bronchitis, pharyngitis, and respiratory photos of pharyngitis,” said the director Speaking to Radio Valle Viejo.

He also said that this increase in cases has been notorious for 10 days: “We have patients who are hospitalized and they test positive for the virus, and they are compromised from a respiratory point of view, causing symptoms such as vomiting, This can also produce respiratory and gastrointestinal disorders.

Likewise, he noted, there was a reduction in the pathology of bronchiolitis “affecting young children over the age of one who require oxygen.”

In this sense, he explained, bronchiolitis affects more children under one year old and causes hypoxia and respiratory distress, while in older children it produces fever, congestion, sore throat, etc. High pathological symptoms, and have risk factors.

Regarding the new coronavirus, he said cases were only detected on an outpatient basis.

Finally, he said they expect the second wave of pediatric respiratory illnesses to occur in August or September.
