In the Madre de Dios region, a vaccination campaign is underway with the goal of reaching 10,000 children and 5,000 older people. Since the first week of July, 91 health institutions in the region have launched a “vaccine sweep” campaign. Health workers vaccinate children aged 1 to 4 and the elderly against pneumonia and other diseases.
“We are in the phase of door-to-door vaccinations, looking for fathers, mothers of families with children to vaccinate.” Yura Magnolia Rojas Vega, Executive Director of Vital Integrative Care at the Regional Health Office of Madre de Dios (Yula Magnolia Rojas Vega) so announced.
“There are 91 health facilities in the Madre de Dios region, including hospitals, health posts, and medical posts. All these schools have fixed locations where parents can go to meet health personnel, so that vaccination days are established. If parents wait at home, health The team will go and get them vaccinated,” he added.
Health teams were deployed to cruise trails, country roads, rivers and streams in boats and small vehicles. These activities aim to reach indigenous communities, less populated centers, farmhouses of agricultural producers in the three provinces and 11 districts of the Madre de Dios region.
“Three years into the pandemic, parents are no longer going to health centers to bring their children and the elderly for health checks because they need regular vaccinations. That’s why the campaign and the deployment of health workers in the region is targeting and 5,000 older adults against the pneumococcus bacteria that cause pneumonia, Covid 19, measles, polio, and more,” Rojas said.
Vaccinations against pneumococcus and other diseases are provided free of charge by the Health Department. The pneumonia vaccine recommended by the World Health Organization is the thirteen-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine. Vaccines are available in all health centers.
