Kendall Jenner on Vogue Italia in April: the sincere and aware interview on mental health

“The beginning of the year was emotionally difficult.” Kendall Jenner, 27 years old completed in November, she is very lucid, honest, aware. Even when she asks how she is. On the other hand, by her own admission, the most important work is what she is doing on herself. With all due respect to parades and campaigns.

A tiring period therefore, now over, which has not simply been set aside, but rather welcomed and assimilated. “To come out and feel optimistic is reassuring. Everything is temporary, I feel intensely grateful and happy, ready for what’s to come.” A near future which in all likelihood will be built with commitment, a busy agenda and demonstrating. Translated: “hope for something until it comes true, using the law of attraction” (source Urban Dictionary, ed). A practice that is also much discussed on social media and which for Kendall is part of a new self-narration. Let’s be clear: the top model remains, the millions of followers, the family reality show, the tequila brand founded a few years ago.But a new chapter is added to the “whole”.more intimate.

A chapter that began with the American Vogue series, available on YouTube, Open Minded. Four episodes in which Kendall confides and confronts experts and experts addressing issues such as anxiety, social media addiction and panic attacks. “I would like to remind everyone that progress in mental health takes time and that you need to continue practicing healthy habits to reach your goal,” she explains when we ask her what she has left of this experience. Below the videos of the format, around 8,000 comments in which, in addition to thanks, praise and emotion, someone wonders about a thorny issue, that of notoriety.

Can you really suffer from anxiety when you’re a celebrity? Or, on the other hand, is this the natural consequence of success? “There are times when I don’t want to be ‘famous’”she admits when asked if she’s ever wished “not to be Kendall,” even for just a minute. “I’ve done a lot of work to come to love myself. But yeah, I definitely had moments where I wished I could stay out of the spotlight for a couple of hours. That said, they are extremely grateful for what I have”.

She doesn’t want misunderstandings, nor to be pitied. Kendall says it clearly, repeats it in Open minded like in the podcast On Porpuse by Jay Shetty: all he wants is to connect with people, share not only emotions but also real practical advice. And since a book is not judged by its cover, nor a person by their Instagram feed, it is worth looking for some details of Kendall’s “social” life to discover small stories format manuals to feel better, even just for a few breaths.

There are the underlined pages of a book, the post-its, the Tibetan bells, the journaling and the walks. “Horse riding is something that always makes me feel good, as is being outdoors and spending time with the people I love,” he explains. And this mix’n’match of sharing, between Prada and palo santo, is in fact an honest way of telling the life of a human being. Exceptional, for heaven’s sake, but still a human being.

“I am proud of the person I have become and the work I have done mentally and emotionally. I feel like every year I ‘find’ myself a little more, I like this process”, he says summing up the last few months. For the next few months, however, Kendall prefers not to give shape: “Life takes many folds and you never know where you will be in the future. I can only hope to be happy and continue my journey for become the best version of myself”.

And if among the wishes there is also peace and universal love, among the fears, the greatest is undoubtedly that of “losing someone I love”” A pain that hit Kendall recently when, on November 28 2021, died Virgil Abloh, designer of Off-White and Louis Vuitton, his great friend. A memory that Kendall has shared several times to celebrate her memory and which, as she said, made her feel human.

To say goodbye, we asked Kendall to give herself a compliment. It seemed like the right way to end this interview. “I can handle anything“, he answered. “I am strong”.
