Zoe Saldana reveals that Avatar 3 may not be as complete as James Cameron says

James Cameron has hinted in recent months that production on Avatar 3 is complete as far as filming is concerned, but star Zoe Saldaña has seemingly denied this claim, declaring that he will return to finish the film in the summer.

Avatar 3 release data

Avatar: Running Water and Avatar 3 were said to be filmed back to back which resulted in a huge production cost that was split between the two films. However, while James Cameron has discussed his 9-hour version of the film, which is rumored to be heading to Disney+ as a series, it appears the reshoots aren’t as complete as he’s implied in several interviews. Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, Saldaña said there’s still a lot to shoot. He commented:

“Yeah, I mean, we’ll come back this summer and finish it. We are 70% done. But we have time.”

He’s certainly not wrong that they have time, given that the film won’t be released in theaters until December 2024. However, it is strange that his estimate of the completion of filming contradicts previous statements about the shooting of the film. In any case, the road to the second sequel to the Avatar franchise still seems to be long. Post-production, which requires a lot of CGI, has already led to rumors that the film could be pushed back from its current release date if Cameron isn’t completely satisfied with the final product.
