the meaning of the yellow dress finals

BarbieNew film Greta Gerwig based on famous Mattel toys and starring Margot Robbie AND Ryan Gosling (here our review) is definitely a job for now. The movie is a huge hit and it makes fans think about every moment and the Easter egg they see. One of the elements that generated the most interest was the yellow dress that Robbie wore at the end of the film when she decides to become human. The costume designer directly explained the reason for this choice. Jacqueline Durran which Variety explained:

I wanted to pay homage to Mattel’s history with the costumes,” says Durran. I asked them what was the most popular costume in the last 5-10 years. Turns out it’s a yellow dress. We wanted a pastel yellow and didn’t want it to be too strong. So we printed yellow on white silk so that it sticks to the body. This is not really a feature of Barbie, she usually wears very tight clothes as this creates a shape that falls off the body. We wanted to bring everything down to a more human scale.

Moving away from the Barbieland look, Durran used wedges instead of the traditional heel.

We went from the classic heeled Barbie pumps to something softer, but we still had to keep the heel.

Barbie was sent Greta Gerwig who signed the script co-written with her husband and famous director Noah Baumbach. In addition to the aforementioned main characters, the film’s cast consists of Will Ferrell, Connor Swindells, Nicholas Coughlan, Emerald Fennell, Michael Cera, America Ferrara, Kingsley Ben Adir, Rhea Perlman, Sharon Rooney, Ana Cruz Kane, Kate McKinnon, Ritu Arya, Jamie Demetriou, Emma McKee, Dua Lipa, Issa Ray, Hari Nef, Alexandra Shipp, Sim Liu, Scott Evans, John Cena AND Nkuti Gatwa.
