Halle Bailey says her Ariel will have more “nuances” than the original: she won’t just “leave the ocean for a boy”.
Halle Bailey has promised that her interpretation of Ariel in the anticipated live-action de The little Mermaid will be richer in “nuance” than the animated version of 1989. The remake produced by Disney will hit theaters in two months, the May 24, 2023. The fantasy story will bring Ariel back to the big screen, a mermaid princess who dreams of becoming human and who is willing to give up her voice in order to be able to walk the earth together with her in love with her, Prince Eric (played by Jonah Hauer- King).

In a new interview with Edition magazine, the young actress hinted that Ariel’s motivations may have changed slightly in the remake.
“I’m really excited about my version of the movie because we definitely changed the perspective of her desire to leave the ocean for a boy”He says. “It’s much bigger than that. She is about herself, her purpose, her freedom, her life and what she wants. As women we are amazing, we are independent, we are modern, we are everything and more. AND I’m glad Disney is modernizing some of these themes.”
The 22-year-old star’s casting prompted a boom in racial trolling and criticism. The first teaser trailer received over 3 million “dislikes” on YouTube. “Seeing the reaction of the world was definitely a shock”Bailey admitted to Edition, “but seeing all the reactions from the little boys, all the little black girls, it really got me emotionally”.
Has continued: “It has honestly been such a crazy ride, and I feel genuinely shocked, honored and grateful to be in this position. Many times I have to pinch myself to understand that this is the reality”.
Josh Gad, who for Disney starred in Frozen and in the live-action adaptation de The beauty and the BeastBailey recently defended on Twitter. “Imagine leading such a pathetic life that your main concern is the skin color of… a fake mermaid singing”he wrote.
