‘Weird Jason Momoa’: Fast X director explains how he created the greatest villain ever

Fast X director Louis Leterrier talks about how Jason Momoa’s iconic villain Dante Reyes was created. Dante, played by Momoa, is the son of Hernán Reyes (Joaquim de Almeida), an evil drug lord who is killed in Fast Five. Fast X focuses on Dante going after Doma’s family for revenge in a fun but brutal way. Dante’s Revenge led to Fast X’s stuck ending, with many characters’ lives hanging in the balance.

Speaking to ComicBook.com, Leterrier reveals how much Momoa influenced the character of Dante in Fast X. Leterrier points out that creating Dante was a shared experience between him and Momoa, with the actor himself playing a big role in writing Dante. Here is what Leterrier says:

“It’s like a push, realizing that we have the same sense of humor and sensibility for movies and characters, and that the greatest villains are the most personified and the most emotional. (Threat) comes through humor, and humor comes through danger, and by understanding these interactions, we know we are on the same wavelength. And then we started working, rehearsing, coming up with new dialogues and new scenes – or rather, whole scenes for his character. But this is Jason, I couldn’t do that with anyone but Jason. Dante is a weird version of Jason Momoa. Jason drives a 1938 Bentley, builds these bikes, he has silk scarves and everything. You just take it and push it a little and you have Dante.”

Dante is a dangerous villain in Fast X who has almost unlimited resources at his disposal, which he uses to exact revenge on Dom and his family. At the end of Fast & Furious X, Dante’s actions lead to Jacob Toretto (John Cena) sacrificing himself to save Dom, and Roman, Tej, Ramsey and Khan’s plane is shot down by the traitor Ames, leaving their fates uncertain. and furious 11.

Due to the devastation Dante causes in Fast X, it seems like he will stop at nothing to destroy Doma’s family, making him a formidable foe who has no intention of leaving anytime soon. Notably, Fast X’s post-credits scene shows that the next step in Dante’s plan is to target Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson). This means that Fast X will be connected to the events of the upcoming Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Reyes, which will continue the story of Dante’s revenge from Hobbs’ point of view.

Considering the danger Dante faces, combined with his humor, it looks like he’ll be a fun villain in Fast & Furious as the saga draws to a close. However, with Fast & Furious 12 still in development, Momoa could still play Dante for a long time. No doubt Momoa will keep the same energy for Dante in the Fast X sequels as he did in the tenth chapter of Fast & Furious.
