Margot Robbie was by no means the first choice for the role in the Barbie movie – two other faces were also conceived in the production.

Margot Robbie risked not being Barbie: who could be in her place

Although many called Robbie perfect for the role, at first there were some doubts who should play the famous doll. In fact, there could have been another actress in the Greta Gerwig film, and there were two possible names, but then they were changed to Margo. Comedian Amy Schumer was the first to be selected for the production, but things did not go as planned with her. Soon after, another name appeared that could perfectly interpret the character of Barbie: Anne Hathaway. This news was even leaked to many newspapers.
The film was originally scheduled to release on June 19, 2018. but the project ultimately failed to accomplish what it intended. Due to some accumulated delays, the film took a different turn. However, in 2019, Warner Bros entered the project and began developing a new casting and a new storyline. It is currently unknown if Hathaway opted out of the film herself or If it was Warner, I don’t need her anymore. What is certain is that it was only at this point that Margot Robbie was cast, and she proved to be absolutely perfect for the role.
