SSM conducts rapid syphilis and HIV tests for young people in CAPASITIS Morelia


In the first semester of this year, a total of 748 consultations were provided and 400 examinations were conducted.

Morelia, Michoacan, August 17, 2023. – Michoacan State Department of Health (SSM) Free tests for syphilis and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) are offered to young people aged 15 to 29 through rapid tests conducted at the Michoacan State Department of Health (SSM). Outpatient Centers for AIDS and Sexually Transmitted Infection Prevention and Care (CAPASITS), an initiative that expands the network of 182 health centers that provide youth-friendly services.

In the first half of the year alone, medical teams provided 784 consultations, 830 condoms, and 400 HIV and syphilis rapid tests to this group of people.

At CAPASITS, young people receive walk-in consultations with specialists who provide information on the symptoms and characteristics of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and the hepatitis C virus. If the patient wishes, he will have a quick blood test in no more than 15 minutes to detect any of these conditions.

Minors do not need to be accompanied by an adult, but only need to sign a consent form to voluntarily go to the medical center for care or to undergo a rapid examination; in addition, if the test result is positive, we provide emotional support and provide treatment free of charge.
