In a small mountain village lives a man with a defiant name: Giuseppe Garibaldi, for all Peppino. He loves fishing, the company of friends, the library, where he works as a temporary worker. He is certainly an optimist, and to his son, who blames him for his failure, he replies, “I don’t know if everything you do comes back to you, but I like to believe it.” One day, due to the confusion of politicians, a grandiose, incredible, unheard-of event occurs: Peppino is mistakenly elected President of the Italian Republic. Torn from his quiet life, he finds himself playing a role for which he knows he is clearly inadequate. His mannerisms are undeniably inadequate, but his common sense and instinctive gestures are incredibly effective. Of course, protocol is not his forte. Janis Clementi, as adamant as she is charming, Deputy General Secretary of the President of the Republic, tries in vain to discipline the President’s unpredictable initiatives. Thus, Peppino’s joyful madness, humanity and disarming honesty surprise institutions in crisis and conquer a discouraged country. But conspiracies, diplomatic incidents, political machinations are already on the horizon, because life in the palaces of power cannot be calm, even if you are just a librarian who is fond of fishing.
