“Sicario 3 gets a frankly disappointing update from Josh Brolin”

Josh Brolin gave a disappointment regarding Sicario 3. The original 2015 thriller followed FBI agent Kate Macer (Emily Blunt), part of an obscure government team involved in the war on drugs and the Mexican cartel. In the film, Brolin plays CIA officer Matt Graver, who leads the mission and is desensitized to violence, alongside assassin Alejandro Gillick (Benicio del Toro). Upon release, the film received praise for its screenplay and cinematography, and a sequel titled Sicario: Soldado Day premiered three years later, starring Brolin and del Toro.

While production is underway on a Sicario 3, titled Sicario: Capos, Brolin shared that the film was difficult to make. Speaking to Variety, the actor questioned the anticipation of the sequel, noting that people are still talking about it, but admitted it might not happen. Here are Brolin’s words about Sicario 3:

“Sicario 3, we tried to get it right and make it happen, but why didn’t it happen? How long can you wait? A difficult film to make even though the first two made money, and people talk about it all the time.”

Given the success of both films and Brolin’s interest in continuing the series, a third installment still seems possible. Last year, the actor gave an upbeat update on Sicario 3, revealing that a script had been written, but added that there was uncertainty as to when that would happen. The fight against Mexican cartels was the focus of Sicario: Day of the Soldado, and in Macer’s absence, Brolin’s character became more prominent. When last seen by Graver, he had decided to go against orders and save Isabel Reyes (Isabela Merced). He also believed Gillick was dead, but the ending of Sicario: Day of the Soldier suggests that another film could have the killer and Miguel Hernandez (Elijah Rodriguez) working together.

There’s a lot of speculation regarding a potential Sicario 3, including what characters might appear and who would create them. It’s worth mentioning that Taylor Sheridan, who wrote Sicario, also worked on the script for the second film. If he sticks with the next film and Brolin and del Toro return, there will be plenty for fans to look forward to.
