HBO is canceling Idol. There will be no second season – News

The news came through Deadline: HBO has closed the doors for the series’ second season. Idol. The series was originally in the hands of Amy Seimetzand later developed by Sam Levinson (Euphoria) and Abel Tesfaye, art Weekendwent through a complex and controversial path of development and ultimately did not receive the critical and public response that the broadcaster expected.

Idol has been one of the most transgressive and original shows on our schedule and we’re certainly happy with the response we’ve received, but after a lot of deliberation, HBO, along with the creators and producers, decided not to continue the show. We are grateful to the creators, cast and crew for all they have done.

It should be noted that the success of the first series Idolespecially among younger audiences, was huge – 3.6 million viewers in just one week of programming on cable TV and its MAX digital platform, surpassing the network’s most popular and established products. White Lotus (3 million in 2021) ed. Euphoria (3.3 million in 2019) – but not offset by the general judgment – and let’s put it in terms of viewership – that we had at the end of the season.
