Maybe a movie about Roman Polanski the most successful in recent years, although not the most publicized, massacre (whose original title in English is curious God of Carnage – God of carnage. Secrets of translations: did the Catholic Church have a hand in this?) was also completely and undeservedly ignored at the Oscars. Based on a play, it belongs to the finest tradition of American interior films to which they belong. Americans AND Big Kahuna, To be clear, with very dense dialogues and absolutely superb interpretations. Everything except the opening and closing credits takes place in an apartment, and this film owes it all to the outstanding performances of four main characters: a librarian and a writer who are nothing more than a beginner (Jodie Foster), merchant of household goods (John S. Reilly), financial analyst (Kate Winslet) and lawyer (Christopher Waltz, probably the top 4, but it’s really hard to decide). Multiple levels of reading: a clash of generations (children who only appear at the beginning and at the end), social classes, a modern society mired in violence under the surface layer of civilization. In the iconic scene of Winslet vomiting (her own hypocrisy?) and unleashing verbal and physical violence (the last one to resist), we define the point of no return for a civilization now in decline.
