Shakira launched a buff appeal to privacy after packing up and leaving Spain for the United States. Last week, the singer moved from Barcelona to Miami with her sons Milan, 10, and Sasha, eight, after the dramatic separation by the former Gerard Piqué. In an attempt to take back the reins of his life and finally find some peace, away from gossip and from the media overexposure, the singer asked the media to respect privacy of his children in this new phase of their lives: «In this period of changes in my life as a public figure, it is understandable that there is a constant curiosity by the media about me and my family. But my sons, Milan and Sacha, have gone through a very complicated year, suffering incessant persecutions by the paparazzi and the media in Barcelona”.
“Now that they are starting a new life – continues the singer in her appeal -, I implore the media on behalf of my children to respect their right to privacy. Please refrain from following them into or out of school and to the door of our house, or from following them in their extracurricular activities with the intention of take pictures of them. I trust that journalists and photographers here will be sensitive to the situation Milan and Sacha are facing and that they can behave in the in the most humane way possible with them, bearing in mind that it is about the physical and emotional health of two minors as young as 8 and 10 years old who just want to be able to feel safe in public without being chased or subjected to constant camera control».
