During the 20th anniversary interview Lost in translation, Sofia Coppola she returned to talking about Hera film written and directed by her ex-husband. Spike Jonze inspired – in part – by the end of their marriage.
Both films explore very specific couple dynamics and present more or less obvious references to their relationship. However, as it turned out from Coppola’s interview, the latter he testified that he had never seen Her: “I have never seen him!– the director admitted Priscilla, noting, however, that the parallel between the two films, despite being released ten years apart, is surprising. “Judging by the trailer, it looks like this. We have the same production designer. But I didn’t see it. I know people really like this movie, but I haven’t seen it.” And he added: “I don’t know if I want to see Rooney Mara playing me.”

Her tells the story of sensitive and lonely Theodore (Joaquin Phoenix), a love letter writer who, after breaking up with his partner (Rooney Mara), seeks solace in an artificial intelligence system voiced by the compelling voice of Scarlett Johansson. Curious, actually, how Johansson herself was the main character Lost in translation and how the film draws parallels between the character played by Giovanni Ribisi (the protagonist’s estranged husband) and Jones himself. Speaking about his film, Coppola also addressed a rumor that might be modeled after the somewhat ditzy Hollywood actress played by Anna Faris, who in the film flirts with Ribisi while staying at the same hotel.
