Extremadura will start a vaccination campaign by November against influenza and coronavirus, a disease whose incidence in the region is “rising” but within expected limits.
According to Sara García España, Minister of Health and Social Affairs, Extremadura currently has a coronavirus incidence rate of 79 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, “which is increasing but within the expected range for this time of year.” He said When asked by the media, Merida said that 4 out of every 100,000 residents require hospitalization.
On the other hand, when reporters asked about the status of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) vaccination, he pointed out that for children born in Extremadura hospitals, vaccination will be offered to their parents. The final decision will be made on “who will be able to be vaccinated before being discharged from the hospital.” The rest will be rescued by local pediatricians or specialists in treating minors with risk factors at the hospital.
This immunization will start in the first half of November and will target all children under six months of age at the time of vaccination, that is, children born after May 2023, as well as children under 2 years old with risk factors.
