Michaela is chasing “Happiness” – éNordEst

The Roman actress Micaela Ramazzotti, after many leading roles in front of the camera, has decided to step back and “sign” her first film as director, where she also plays the role of an actress, without forgetting some of her important and very intense roles, such as in “La Pazza Gioia” and “Tutta la vita ante” by Paolo Virzi or in “Tenderness” by Gianni Amelio and “Anni Happy” by Daniele Lucchetti.

Michaela and Felicita’s success

His debut in Felicita was also acclaimed and applauded at the recent Venice Film Festival, where he won the Audience Award in the Horizonte Extra section. In fact (despite some minor flaws, probably due to the first experience) this is a beautiful film, shot simply and naturally, written by Ramazzotti herself together with Isabella Cecchi and Alessandra Guidi.

Michaela and history

The story is about a lower-middle-class Roman family in which the parents (Max Tortora and Anna Galiena) turn out to be very selfish and, if we like, exploitative towards two brothers, Désiré (Micaela Ramazzotti) and Claudio (Matteo Olivetti). ). She works as a hairdresser, especially on film sets, where she often finds herself in awkward situations, forced to endure the advances of actors, and it is no coincidence that she was nicknamed “the cyclist”, because almost everyone “ride” with her.

The brother is in a state of severe depression, which will lead him to hospitalization and forced to take psychotropic drugs, which does not give him much prospects for the future. There’s also Desiree’s boyfriend, played by Sergio Rubini, a decidedly snobbish, left-wing and very pedantic university professor. Who is much older than her, treats her with disdain and stays together only for the purpose of sex. In short, Desiree experiences a series of negative situations, but nevertheless she is always looking for that “happiness” that seems to be just around the corner. He never loses his smile, even when faced with the “harassment” of his father, a presenter on private television and at village festivals, who in some respects recalls some of Alberto Sordi’s old “mean” roles.

Michaela and the camera

Ramazzotti is good as a director, but she is definitely better as a number one actress in roles that show fragility and at the same time the desire for great redemption. She also touches on the topic of mental health related to the figure of her brother, remembering the film “La pazza gioia”, where she was the main character along with Valeria Bruni.

Michaela and Rome

And there are also places in this film that give you an idea. The buildings of Fiumicino, very dear to Pier Paolo Pasolini, where the actress and director were born. The theme of the old and beloved Italian comedy is repeated often, and this is not a “deminutio capitis”, but rather confirms the first work of Micaela Ramazzotti, who is able to look with humility at the “masters” of Italian cinema.
