Warning! Spoilers ahead!
Nobody Can Save You has become the talk of the internet, with director Brian Duffield opening up about its wildly unexpected ending.
The sci-fi thriller stars Kaitlyn Dever as Brynn, an isolated young woman who must survive the night her town is invaded by aliens. The 93-minute film contains only one line of dialogue, and its uniqueness has earned praise from the likes of Stephen King and Guillermo del Toro. The film went viral on social media with many discussing its shocking ending.
“She finally got what she thought she’d never deserve, and I love the idea that this kid who’s been through so much actually has a happy ending, as weird as it is,” Duffield told The Hollywood Reporter. “I love horror movies that end with a real slap in the face, but I liked Brynn too much to slap her.”
The director’s other horror credits include the Netflix slasher films The Nanny and The Nanny: Killer Queen, as well as the horror comedy Spontaneous, starring Katherine Langford and Charlie Plummer.
Duffield added: “Much of the ending came from the idea that Brynn spent all this time creating her own world, like the aliens, and between these aliens who are now sort of controlling our bodies… I didn’t want the aliens to be too sympathetic , but I also think they realized that Brynn was a worthy adversary who didn’t necessarily have to be an adversary.”
