Billie Eilish’s life is “better” when she’s honest with herself.
The chart-topping singer thought she had truly “found” herself as a teenager, but now she admits she is constantly changing and learning about the world around her.
Billie, 21, told Allure magazine: “When I was 17, I thought, I’ve found this. I found the person I am forever. Here’s how I’m going to do it. I found all the ways! my boundaries. This is what makes me happy and this is my recipe for how I write music and be happy.
“Then I got a little older and suddenly life was like, ‘This isn’t going to work. You must change. You’re not that person anymore.”
“But the more I think about being myself, the better my life becomes. The more I am myself, the better my life.”
Billie is proud that she and her brother Finneas were able to forge their own paths in the music business.
The award-winning star has always been determined to do things her way, and Billie believes her success justifies that approach.
She said: “I have to give credit to the person I’ve always been – I didn’t give a damn at all.
“Between us being a 14-year-old girl, Finneas being a 17-year-old boy, and us making these little songs, we had to make it very clear that we weren’t just going to do what somebody said. People could have done crazy shit and I didn’t let them.
“I had to convince a room full of people for many, many years that I was going to do what I knew was right for me. I had ideas, I had plans.”
